MV
Laboratories, Inc. was
founded in 1985 to meet a growing need for the high-purity
inorganic
materials used in analytical spectroscopy techniques such
as inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy (ICP)
and graphite
furnace atomic absorption (GFAA), as well as industrial
applications that included the purification of scandium
and preparation
of rare earth and alkaline earth sulfides for infrared activated
phosphors.
The company quickly became a primary wholesale
supplier of high-purity inorganic compounds for many well-known
laboratory chemical catalogs that serve chemists in research,
product development, and various analytical sciences.
The company's core technology is the development
and application of synthetic methods for the removal of trace
impurities in the part per million range without the use of
zone refining, sublimation, or other techniques that typically
add extra costs to the manufacturing process. This technology,
combined with an expertise in inorganic synthesis, allows cost-effective
production of hundreds of compounds with purities ranging from
99.99% up to 99.9999%.
While maintaining its focus on original application areas, MV Laboratories continues to grow as new requirements for high-purity inorganics are found in industries that include optoelectronics, superconductors, fiber optics, fuel cells, and nanotechnology.
In 1999, the company relocated and now occupies
a 6000 sq. ft. facility that houses two manufacturing labs,
a laboratory for wet chemical analysis, an instrument laboratory,
a solution standard manufacturing laboratory, and several stockrooms
and administrative offices.
MV Laboratories Management Warren Miller, Ph.D.
Dr. Miller founded MV Laboratories in 1985.
He earned his BS degree in Chemistry from Clarkson University,
Potsdam, NY, and
his Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from S.U.N.Y., Binghamton, NY
in 1970. After receiving his doctorate, he worked with Dr. L.
Vaska at Clarkson University where he prepared novel precious
metal compounds for studies in homogeneous catalysis.
Prior to founding MV Laboratories, Dr. Miller put his talents
to use at Spex CertiPrep (formerly Spex Industries, Edison, NJ)
where he established and managed the Spectrochemicals Group, a
successful new division at this firm that also manufactures instrument
monochromators and accessories for sample preparation and analysis.
He has been employed as chief chemist, Alfa Analytical Laboratories,
Jersey City, NJ, and with Ag-Met, Delano, PA, where he worked
in precious metals assaying and refining. His additional areas
of expertise in chemistry include the solid-state preparations
of high purity materials.
Dr. Miller is a published author of more than
twenty scientific papers on the synthesis of precious metal
coordination compounds,
and rare earth and scandium complexes. He also presented papers
on the preparation of high purity materials at various international
spectroscopy meetings in Japan, Korea, Germany and Canada.
Phillip Blacher
Phillip Blacher joined MV Laboratories in 1986. He works as a
synthetic inorganic chemist and oversees the analytical quality
control laboratory.
Phillip earned a BS degree in Chemistry from East Stroudsburg
University, East Stroudsburg, PA, with a curriculum concentration
in inorganic and analytical chemistries. His post-graduate education
also includes courses in ICP spectroscopy and ICP Mass Spectrometry.
He coauthored a paper on the purification of inorganic materials
that was presented
at the 1994 ICP Winter Conference, a biannual symposium sponsored
by the Univ. of Mass, Amherst, MA.
